Demo 2 - "To Everything A Season" - Oil Landscape (Bandelier National Park New Mexico)
| 03 November, 2013 01:07
"To Everything A Season"
The above 12" x 16" oil landscape depicts Frijoles Creek in Bandelier National Park in New Mexico. I was in the area several years ago and took several reference photographs. Funny thing is, after I began this painting (and in the initial stages), I somehow misplaced my reference photograph. So I had to go by my memory and my imagination to complete the painting. It is, however, a very close rendition of the area. The image above is the completed painting. Below are various stages of development; I forgot to take photos about 3 times, so there were more stages than shown below.
Stage 3 shown above
Stage 4
The above stage 4 shows some important changes in the painting; I made the mule deer smaller, for one thing, and I livened up the color a bit. You can tell that the painting emerged through a lot of experimentation.

Demo 1 - "Spring Snow Patches" - New Landscape Painting
| 13 October, 2013 01:16
Below are images of the oil landscape painting I recently completed, showing its progress from the very beginning to the end and the changes made. It is a scene right on the outskirts of Taos, New Mexico. A light snow had fallen, and as it melted a few snow patches lingered on.
The first photo shows the completed painting; after that the various stages of the development of the work.
